Pigs that are fed their dry feed separately from their water put on less fat. That is the experience of Toon and Erica Vos-van de Langenberg. In two piggeries, the only real difference is the feeding system. One piggery has a Drowaco, which has two feeding areas with a well-screened drinking area in between. In the other barn, there are flap feeders where feed and water do come into contact with each other. The fat thickness of the fattening pigs reared on the Drowaco system is always slightly lower than that of the fattening pigs on the flap feeders. Otherwise, there are no or hardly any differences in the results. Theoretically, the feed conversion of the pigs fed via the Drowaco system should therefore be better. A trial is currently underway in which they are closely monitoring feed consumption to find out whether this is also the case in practice.
